Do you see what I see?
Earlier this week, I was perusing Facebook and one of my friends, Robin, posted about the Christmas song, “Do you hear what I hear?”. She said she wasn’t a fan of the song but had recently heard Whitney Houston’s version and had softened her a little to the traditional hymn. She started hearing it from a different point of view. I started thinking about perspective… Do you hear what I hear? Do you see what I see? Do you know what I know?
I will never forget the first time I drove into San Antonio after Lindsey passed away. There was a huge highway sign on IH35 that said 28 deaths this year on Texas Roads. It took my breath away. I saw my daughter. She was one of the people represented by those numbers. I will never look at that sign the same way. Do you see what I see?
This year has been a stressful year. Many of us are watching the news, following county health department reports or commenting on our friend’s political views with a new perspective. I have friends that think the COVID numbers are over inflated. I have friends and family who follow the CDC guidelines to the letter of the law. My husband and I recently recovered from COVID (ugh! not fun at all) but honestly, we still don’t know who 100% right is. How can we really know?
I do know that the Bible gives us the answers to life’s most difficult questions. Christ said the greatest commandments are “To love God with all your heart, soul and strength” and “To love your neighbor as yourself.” How can we go wrong if we use these two rules as our guide? If we hear, see and know the world through these two guidelines, I think we are all headed in the right direction.
